2022 PIAA AA Wrestling Tournament Final Results

    The 2022 PIAA AA Wrestling Tournament has come to an end.  The 2022 version of the AA didn't disappoint, there were 3 wrestlers win their 3rd State Title, 2 wrestlers win their 2nd state title, and 2 returning state champions were defeated.  The team race, which was basically a two team race all weekend, went to Notre Dame-Green Pond (116 points)  Notre Dame-GP is the only team to have 2 champions.  The rest of the top five teams were 2. Saucon Valley (99), 3. Faith Christian Academy (68), 4. Wyoming Area (60), and 5. Bishop McDevitt (58).  Here is the Championship Results:

106-Aaron Seidel (Northern Lebanon) won 4-2 over Returning State Champion Louie Gill (Hickory).  Aaron is the only Freshman to win a title this year.  

113-Gavin Bradley (Athens) won 4-3 over Brandon Wentzel

120-Jaden Pepe (Wyoming Area) won his 2nd State Title by MD 15-4 over Brock Weiss (Jersey Shore)

126-Scott Johnson (Muncy) won 9-2 over Mark Palmer (Brockway)

132-Brandon Chletsos (Notre Dame-GP) won 1-0 over Owen Reinsel (Brookville)

138-In the only championship match between undefeated wrestlers Ryan Crookham (Saucon Valley) wins his 3rd State Title 5-1 over Connor Pierce (Harbor Creek).  Ryan is the 53rd wrestler in PIAA history to win 3 State Championships. 

145- Conner Harer (Montgomery) won 3-0 over Eric Alderfer (Faith Christian Academy)

152-Jackson Arrington won his 3rd State Title and his 4th State Medal.  Jackson took 3rd as a Sophomore.  Jackson won by fall in 1:45 over Andrew Christie (Bishop McDevitt).  Jackson finished the tournament with 1 Technical Fall in 2:29, and 3 Falls-2 in the first period.  Jackson is the 54th wrestler in PIAA History to win 3 State Championships. Jackson finishes his career 146-8 and is also a 4x D6 AA Champion and 3x AA Southwest Regional Champ. Jackson will continue his wrestling career at NC State. 

160-Holden Garcia (Notre Dame-GP) won 2-1 over Returning State Champion Grant MacKay (Laurel) 

172-Rune Lawrence (Frazier) won his 2nd State Title by fall in 4:43 over Jacob Jones (Saucon Valley).  Rune is a Sophomore so he has a chance to be a 4x State Champion. 

189-Isaac Cory (Montoursville) won 5-1 over previously unbeaten Cole Karpinski (Greenville)

215-Dayton Pitzer (Mount Pleasant) won his 3rd State Title by fall in 1:07 over Brad Morrison (West Perry).  Dayton finished the tournament with 4 falls-all in the first period.  Dayton was awarded the Outstanding Wrestler of the tournament.  Dayton's fall in the final was his 100th of his career.  Dayton finishes the season 45-0 with 44 falls.  Only 2 of the 44 falls were past the first period.  His one match that wasn't a fall was a 4-2 win in OT TB2 over Thomas Stewart (Blair Academy).  Dayton is the 55th wrestler in PIAA History to win 3 State Championships. 

285-Riley Robell (Bishop McDevitt) won 5-0 over Austin Johnson (Muncy).  Austin failed in his attempt to be the first PIAA Freshman HWT to win a State Title. 

The Champions by District are: D1-0 / D2-1 / D3-2 / D4-4 / D5-0 / D6-1 / D7-2 / D9-0 / D10-0 / D11-3 / D12-0

The Champions by Region are: NE-5 / NW-0 / SE - 3 / SW-3   

The Champions by Class are: Fresh-1 / Soph - 2 / Junior - 4 / Senior -6   

4 of the 7 Unbeaten wrestlers entering the tournament won State Titles and all 7 medaled


The top D6 teams were Bald Eagle Area and Forest Hills who tied for 14th with 41.5 points, and Glendale who finished 17th with 38 points.  Here is how the other 8 D6 wrestlers finished:

113 - Lucas Fye (Bald Eagle Area/Sophomore) finished 5th.  Lucas medaled for the first time. Lucas ends the season 34-10

113 - Landon Bainey (West Branch/Sophomore) finished 6th.  Landon earned his 2nd 6th place medal. Landon ends the season 40-4. 

120 - Coen Bainey (Bald Eagle Area/Junior) finished 3rd.  Coen's third trip to Hershey and second medal. Coen finished 4th last year and didn't place as a freshman. Coen ends the season 37-5.

138 - Easton Toth (Forest Hills/Senior) finished 8th.  Easton medaled for the first time in 4 trips to Hershey.  Easton finishes his career at 120-39 and is a 3x D6 AA Champion, 1x AA Southwest Champion, and 4x PIAA State Qualifier. 

145 - Ty Watson (Penns Valley/Sophomore) finished 6th.  Ty finished with a State Medal in his first trip to Hershey. Ty ends the season 40-3

160 - Zeke Dubler (Glendale/Junior) finished 4th.  This is Zeke's first State Medal in his second trip to Hershey.  Zeke ends the season 38-5.

172 - Suds Dubler (Glendale/Senior) finished 4th.  Suds finished his career with a 127-21 record.  Suds is a 2x D6 AA Champion and this is his first medal in his 3rd trip to Hershey. 

172 - Caleb Close (Bald Eagle Area/Freshman) finished 8th.  Caleb ends the season 40-14

Brian Ingalls

Brian Ingalls is the owner/operator of Pa Sports History. Brian was a multi sport athlete for United High School in Armagh, Pa. Shortly after graduation, Brian joined the military and spent 6 years in the U.S. Army. After his military service, Brian moved back to the United school district. Brian and his wife, Susan, have four children. All four children were/still are involved in high school sports.
