United Lions win the first District 6 Soccer Championship in School History

The United High School Soccer program started in 2008, and for the first time in school history, the United Lions are District 6 Soccer Champions!  The 2022 United Lions Soccer team has set school records all year.  It started with Senior Dylan Dishong setting the United all time goals record earlier in the season.  Then the Lions went on to set school records with the most wins (13) and the best record (13-3-1).  The Lions then became the first United Soccer team to make the D6 Championship game by beating Bishop Carroll 2-1 in the Semis.  Tonight the Lions defeated the #1 seed Richland 2-0 to win the D6 A Soccer Championship for the first time in school history.

United's win tonight was a total team effort.  United's Defense led by Senior Defensemen Evan McAnulty and Senior Midfielder Ty Gapshes kept Richland from getting many good looks on offense.  The few good shots Richland were able to get were stopped by Senior Goalkeeper Andrew Payne.  Payne made 3 high leverage stops in the last 20 minutes to preserve the shutout.  On Offense Gapshes, Senior Striker Dylan Dishong, Junior Midfielder Connor Rosko, and Sophomore Striker Gideon Bracken kept pressure on Richland most of the game.  The two goals were scored in the first half by Freshman Midfielder Carter Payne and Dishong.

United will now, for the first time ever, enter the PIAA A State Soccer Championships! The Lions play the D7 Champion in the first round 11/8 site and time TBD.
